Here in this simple quote is the starting point which thrusts the spiritual path upon most of us. Until life becomes a pressing, insolvable problem, we won't put aside our desires and fears long enough to begin questioning.

We soon see that the intellect alone will not take us to Enlightenment.  Another type of seeing, or attention, is needed. Help comes from within, from the spirit, the formless unknown, rather than from the intellectual ego.

A third party is necessary, an impartial observer who "notices" the looker and the seen.

Above the ancient temple at Delphi were inscribed the words, "Know Thyself". Realization can occur in a clear mind, free from concepts. Once you come Home, you realize you never really left.

We are simple awareness. The mind is complex. We become lost in thought and its never ceasing associative pattern. Nothing is so simple and 'right' as who we really are.

Listen.  Pay attention to yourself directly, without thought, by simple perception. The thoughts are the reactions of the mind to the direct seeing. They have become so important, we have forgotten how to listen.
